Think about it. We tend to make decisions about something based on other people’s perception of that thing. While this doesn’t happen all of the time, this applies in our everyday lives and often times in our business decisions.

In fact, in a survey carried out by the popular review website, G2, 90% of business executives are more likely to make a purchase decision after reading a product review.

When paying for a business tool, it’s best to compare the different options and read customer reviews to understand first-hand user experience. In this post, we’ll be looking at the reviews of two video marketing and communication tools, Hippo Video and Dubb.

After analyzing a good number of user reviews from credible sources like Capterra, G2, and TrustRadius, a common trend stood out. We compiled the frequently reported cons and pros of both platforms so you’ll know what to look out for if you’re contemplating paying for one.

Hippo Video Reviews

Before we get started, it’s worth mentioning that both platforms are fairly similar. Hippo Video and Dubb have a lot of features in common like video creations tools, distribution tools, and performance tracking.

Another thing to note is Hippo Video’s editing capabilities. Asides from the basic editing, Hippo Video comes with a full video editing suite that sets it apart from other competitors in the video marketing space.

However, there are pros and cons of this feature. The video editing capability works as both its strength and weakness.

Hippo Video Pros

After analyzing a ton of Hippo Video reviews, a common theme stuck out. A lot of customers report that what they like most about Hippo Video is its versatility.

With a lot of tools, Hippo Video allows users to quickly create and share videos with individuals or with multiple recipients in campaign mode.

Hippo video users can also track the performance of each video and their entire campaign, as well as customize the landing pages and other assets to fit their brand.

Another feature of Hippo Video that most users say they like is the Video editing feature. As mentioned earlier, this is something that Hippo Video does differently from other video communication platforms.

Their video editing tool lets users trim clips, cut, crop, add text, emojis and call-outs to the video. But there’s only so much you can do with the editor. Users that are looking for advanced video editing report that it has limited functionality, in which case it’s best to pay for a professional video editing software.

Hippo Video Cons

We’ve looked at the positive side of Hippo Video, let’s see what users complain about. This would give you a heads up about what to expect when you decide to try out Hippo Video for the first time.

Bugginess

One issue that most Hippo Video users report is the glitches they experience while using the software. While most of the bugs come from the video editor, some errors also occur while recording new videos.

A common bug that frustrates a lot of users is the lag and duration for compiling after editing. Asides waiting for a long period of time to render a video after using the Hippo Video editor, users also say they experience random screen freezes.

In fact, there are severe cases where the recorded videos get deleted completely or the screen recording doesn’t appear at all.

Integration

The ability of a new tool to fit your current toolset is crucial. This will make collaboration and file sharing easier and will help you complete tasks more efficiently.

That being said, Hippo Video users complain about the limited integration capability. While they can integrate with Zapier, connecting your autoresponder to Hippo Video might be a little difficult. At this time, Hippo Video can only integrate with MailChimp, Active Campaign, and HubSpot in the marketing automation space.

A quick way to bypass this limitation would be to pay for Zapier, of course, but that would just bump up your cost of operations a bit.

Limited Bandwidth and Lack of Automation

With the demand for videos and the ROI on video marketing increasing, businesses are leaning more towards producing and distributing videos. So as the need to host videos increases, it would be best to keep the cost of hosting low.

On average, you would need roughly 380 GB of bandwidth to have 1,000 visitors watch a 20-minute video at 720 p resolution. So it’s pretty clear that businesses that are putting out a lot of video content will chew up a good amount of bandwidth.

Hippo video users on the Growth plan (that can cost as high as $125/month) are limited to only 200 GB of bandwidth at 1080p resolution. For users on the $31/month starter plan, they’re limited to uploading videos that are only 720p and with the same 200 GB cap.

So Hippo video users with huge traffic and a lot of video content will have to pay more money for extra bandwidth.

Another important limitation worth mentioning is that Hippo Video does not have an in-built marketing automation feature. Users will have to rely on third-party tools for automation.

Pricing

One last downside that Hippo Video users frequently talk about is the features included in their pricing options. For some small businesses, all the key tools they need for their video communication are in the low-priced starter plan. The catch here is that they limit video quality to only 720 p — which is something most people don’t want to deal with.

In order to get around this, users are compelled to upgrade to the higher-priced PRO plan to access higher resolution, even though they do not need the extra features that come with it.

Dubb Reviews

Since we’ve looked at different hippo video reviews to see the positive and downsides of the platform, it’s worth comparing Dubb on the same scale to see how they stack up.

Let’s start out with the few complaints Dubb users seem to have;

Dubb Cons

Frequent App Updates

This seems to be the recurrent theme of Dubb users’ complaints. Due to additional features being rolled out and glitches being fixed, new updates for the mobile apps were released at different times. This was a bit of a hassle for some users, but others were okay with it.

This issue is a thing of the past though as the mobile apps for both iOS and Android are stable, so app updates aren’t frequent anymore.

No Full Video Editing Suite

Dubb has a powerful suite of tools that helps users create and share videos with some level of editing capabilities — real-time editing, annotation, text overlay, and splicing multiple clips together, but a few Dubb users with advanced video editing needs say they wish the platform had a more advanced video editing suite.

If there’s a need for some complex video editing, it’s best to pay a one-time fee for a stand-alone professional video editing software, otherwise, Dubb works perfectly fine for the basics.

Pros of using Dubb

With the downsides of Dubb out of the way, let’s look at the pros of using Dubb;

After analyzing a ton of 5-star reviews from 14,000+ happy Dubb users (over 4,500 of which are using the Chrome extension), two things stuck out — users LOVE the platform, not because of one or two features, but because it’s an all in one tool with everything you need to run a successful campaign. And a lot of users say it’s a game-changer that actually gets results and has helped improve their business.

Flexibility

For some organizations, keeping branding consistent across all channels is a crucial part of their marketing efforts. Dubb gives you the flexibility to customize videos by including your logo watermark, personalized text, and tweaking the entire landing page to match your brand.

Easy-to-use Interface

A good number of Dubb users say the platform is intuitive and easy-to-use. The interface is built in a way that lets you easily navigate through and access different tools. And when you need to share data and use other tools, Dubb easily integrates with 82 other tools. Users can even link their messenger or calendar on landing pages to quickly start conversations with prospects.

Now that I can send a video intro and calendar invite at the same time, I have received about an increase of 10% more closings. 10% not much – well for me it’s a game-changer. Dubb is so much more. Check it out.

Conclusion

After looking at both Dubb and Hippo Video reviews, we’ve seen where both platforms fall short and areas where they shine. While they both have similar features, it is clear that Dubb offers more functionality and has more satisfied users than Hippo Video.

In summary, Hippo Video users have to pay extra for some features and tools like marketing automation and collecting video testimonials, but Dubb users will get all of these at a lower cost — while having a lot more flexibility.
