You Can’t Differentiate Without Being Different

We all try to separate and differentiate ourselves from competitors. Intuitively, we recognize that standing out in our sector can lead to more attention, more prospects, and more sales. That being said, you can’t differentiate without being different. Simply wishing to stand out isn’t enough. As you and your company’s core, you must be truly different than your competitors.
In this recording from the Dubb Action Summit, Dubb founder Ruben Dua discusses these ideas with Kyle Steele. Kyle is a senior account manager at Amur Equipment Finance and the self-described “most interesting man in leasing.”

✔ It doesn’t take much to differentiate yourself in a boring industry. As Kyle says, his nickname as the “most interesting man in leasing” isn’t because he is actually the most interesting. It is because the industry is so boring.
✔ So when trying to differentiate yourself, rest assured that you don’t need to be the most exciting person or company in your industry.
✔ The difference between you and your competitor is content. By creating valuable and engaging content for your audience, you can make a name for yourself. While it may take some time at first, creating content is absolutely an investment worth making.
✔ You don’t need to spend a ton of time creating content.
For example, Kyle puts himself out there through a “One Minute Wednesday” series. By being consistent and sharing stories, Kyle is able to build a close bond with his audience.
The bottom line? You have to start somewhere. If you are struggling to differentiate yourself, take a risk or do something new. Getting into this habit will pay off.
