If you suffer, like millions of people from video phobia,
\nthere is a cure.
\nRight about now, I’m feeling videophobia. A lot of people feel
\nreally forced, uncomfortable, and slightly robotic when they’re doing videos.
\nAnd that makes sense. Get it? If you do a lot of take if
\nyou do a lot of take, you do a lot of take. If you do
\na lot of take, you do a lot of take and you keep messing up
\nyour line, you start to feel robotic. The reality, though, is that
\nif people get to know you on a personal level, whatever it is about you
\nthat’s quirky or fun or authentic is what makes you most
\ncharming. Kind of like C three P O.
\nFear is actually limiting us from being able to take the
\nrisks that will help us to do our job. Sometimes you got to make mistakes.
\nYou’ve got to go through the process. You can’t make everyone happy with your content.
\nAnd the key, though, is to be data driven, to figure out where the learning
\nis, what the mistake was, and how to pivot into something that’s
\nactually going to work. Not doing anything is the only thing that you should be
\nafraid of. The only cure to video phobia is with practice and
\nwith exercise. Now, it doesn’t have to be to a broadcast of tons of people.
\nIt can be to just one person. No, I’m clearly not afraid of being out
\nthere. I’m an accountant, chief financial officer of an organization. There’s no camera
\ndoing an activity, so they’re not concentrating on the camera. They’re concentrating on what
\nthey’re doing. We can get lost. We can get terrified of all the different options
\nout there to both create and share. The reality is that you don’t need to
\noverthink it. It’s actually very easy. How do you get over videophobia?
\nDoing it like a piece at a time. Exposure is the best way to
\ndo it. All you really have to do is to get into a quick record
\nmentality, and you can start capturing the stories that you’re already telling
\npeople just in video format. My TEDx Talk, it was rediscovering your potential,
\nand one of the main points was fear. Rather than letting that fear take
\nover and letting yourself kind of fall behind in digital marketing world or
\nvideo marketing, get ahead. Start now, before you fall behind.
\nCommunicating and storytelling, that is what people are going to connect to
\nyou on. It’s not with frills. It’s not with smoke and mirrors, not with the
\ncrazy production value. If people want to judge, they’re going to judge, and people will
\nalways see what they want to see. There’s enough success points that you’ll get that
\nmake it all worthwhile. So don’t worry about the haters.
\nA lot of people are also concerned on where to shoot their videos. Never have
\na perfect location for your videos. Some people work from home,
\nand they’re embarrassed to show their apartment maybe they have a crying baby or a
\ndog in the background, or a terrible looking painting on their wall that
\nthey’re super embarrassed about. Maybe their office is a mess. The key is to find
\na place that you’re comfortable with and that you can be honest and you can
\nbe yourself in, and that you can just communicate your best, most authentic, honest stories.
\nSomething that we talk about a lot, which is called Brandt Brand debt,
\nis when you don’t create content to push your brand forward and
\nyou lose out to your competitors, especially the ones that already have original content.
\nNot too long ago, I was pretty terrified about public speaking and even
\nbeing on video. To a certain extent, through iterations and through practice
\nand through a lot of exercises, I was able to get to a place where
\nI could create content and share it and feel comfortable about it. The reality,
\nthough, is that I’m still working on it.
\nI want to develop long lasting relationships where people know you
\nand they trust you. Start scaling yourself, seeing the growth that you’re looking for.
\nGet the numbers that you want. Consider using video and get over your
\nvideo. Phobia. If I can do it, anyone can do it. Can you tell us

\nHere I am on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, just a couple of steps from
\nour office, and I ran into the Museum of Selfies.
\nIt’s a bunch of sets where you go in and you record videos of yourself
\nwith crazy backdrop that you can put into on Instagram and snapshot.
